How to Write for Your B2B Fitness Blog
So, your B2B fitness company wants you to start a blog but you have no idea where to start. You have some background knowledge in writing because you always did good with your essays in school. This new business venture, however, is completely out of your comfort zone because you have never done this before. Well, I have some good news for you. First, you are already set up for success since you wrote some exceptional essays in school. Second, you do not have to worry because I have some pretty solid advice to get you started on writing some amazing blogs; and it all starts with polishing your web writing skills.
Practice, Practice, Practice
I know this piece of advice is simple, but it can be quite difficult to commit to. Practicing is a very important part of developing and maintaining a skill; that is why I made it the first way to polish your web writing skills.
On the bright side, every time you write a blog post, you are getting some level of practice in. Outside of practicing by doing you job, you can take time out every week to write a blog post about anything you want. This does not have to be anything extravagant or anything that even gets posted. You can write about your visit to your favorite restaurant, or on the new movie you watched over the weekend. This exercise is simply a way for you to get more experience with writing for the web. Who knows? You may even start your own personal blog.
Read Other B2B Fitness Blogs
This tip may seem too good to be true, but trust me, it will help. For anything in life, the more you expose yourself to something, the more familiar you will become with it. So, when it comes to writing blogs for your B2B fitness company, reading other blogs related to this industry will do you a great deal of good. You will be able to see the language other writers use, the formats they utilize, and get inspiration from what they write about.
If you are having problems finding blogs specifically for the B2B fitness industry, that is fine. Reading blogs for other B2B companies or any fitness blogs can prove to be helpful as well.
Concision is Key
Have you ever tried reading an article online and it was way too much? Well, I want you to avoid that at all costs. Intense articles or blog posts can be a turnoff to the reader, and the last thing you want is a potential customer leaving your blog because they were overwhelmed with the post.
When you are writing, ask yourself if you or your friend would be able to understand what you are writing. This can be a great way to keep your posts nice and simple. You should also keep the end goal in mind. Remember the exact reason you are writing the post and keep that in the front of your mind as you work on it. That way your message has a better chance of getting across.
Lastly, do not forget that simplicity gets the job done. Leonardo Da Vinci once said, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”. Now this is a quote from arguably on of the greatest minds of all time. If he believes that simplicity is a very high level of sophistication, then you should not be afraid of keeping your blog posts simple. They will be easier for your audience to understand, and it can possibly be the reason they stick around to finish reading.
Keep Your B2B Fitness Audience in Mind
Speaking of your audience, please do not forget about them. I know you may get so caught up in getting your amazing and concise blog written that you totally forget just who you are writing it for. No need to worry though, because I am here to remind you that you are writing it for them.
One way to do this is to re-read every section of your blog post as you go and ask yourself if it will be helpful to your audience. The last thing you want to do is spend all your time and effort writing this wonderful blog, but your intended audience find sit useless. So. Please remember who you are writing for, and what you are trying to help them with. Also, this is your opportunity to use industry jargon. You do not have to worry about it going over the reader’s head, because they will be in the same industry as you! How exciting is that?
Be Original
I have another questions to ask you. Do you ever look up a certain topic and get bored because it seems like everyone is taking the same approach to presenting their information? If you answered “yes” to that, you are not alone. You do not want to be the writer whose articles sounds like everyone else. The good news is that you have a unique style of speaking, and you can use that to translate into your blog posts. Do not be afraid to write a joke here and tell a story there. Not only will in help keep your readers engaged, but it will help your post stand out.
I know I told you to read other B2B fitness company blogs, but that is strictly for educational and inspirational purposes. When you write your awesome essays back in school, I am sure you were writing based on already published work, but your originality still shone through. When you write your blogs, it is the same thing as that; allow your personality, unique style of writing, and specific skills to be displayed throughout your work.
Be Observant of What is Happening in the B2B Fitness Industry
Although this is a new tip, it can aid you in being original when writing your blog posts. Since you are working at a B2B fitness company, you have a front row seat to what is happening in the industry. Please use that to your advantage. Keep your eyes open to what is happening around you. This will help you write posts that are helpful to other companies because it will be relevant. This will also help you come up with writing topics.
Some ways to help you be observant is by taking notes of what happens throughout your day. You can type in your phone or write in a notepad; it does matter where, so long as you are keeping track of your observations. Another thing you can try is playing a game where you tell yourself you have to make at least one observation each day. This will help you keep your eyes and mind open. Lastly, you can simply talk to your coworkers about what is going on in the industry. You may not always be too keen on what is going on, but that is alright. Your coworkers will not only help with that, but they can also help you see things from a different point of view.
Plan Your Next Post
It may be difficult for you to just sit down and start typing away at your computer. Do not feel bad if this is an issue for you. You are in good company. There is a simple step to take to help with this little problem, and it is to plan out your next blog post before you start working on it.
Let’s say you plan on writing on Thursday. You can figure out the topic and start doing research for the post on Tuesday and Wednesday. That way, you do not have to deal with sitting down and drawing a blank or just being straight up lost. Trust me, planning before execution will help you out a lot.
Don’t Forget to Proofread
Imagine you write this amazing blog post, and you are so excited to get it posted. So, you hit publish only to find out some time later that the article was kind of a mess. Please allow me to help you prevent this from happening by heading my warning. We as writers are never too experienced for proofreading. Here are some of my favorite proofreading tips that I use all the time.
- Simple re-read what you have written. This will allow you to catch some little slip ups that you most likely overlooked.
- Read what you have written out loud. Many times, reading what you write is not enough, but it is a great first step. Reading out loud, however, is a game changer. I do not know what it is but reading aloud has proven to help me catch more errors.
- Have someone else read your work. This would ideally be another great writer. I personally have my sister read things over for me. Grammarly is also a great resource. There is nothing like a computer catching those mistakes that I cannot catch on my own.
- Proofread more than once. I know this can feel redundant, but this will help a lot. For some reason, we usually do not realize everything the first time around. If you are tired of reading your won work, you can simply read it again another day with a fresh and rested mind.
Take it (Semi) Easy and Have Fun with It
After the eight other tips I gave you, this step may seem ridiculous, but please hear me out. The thing about writing blogs is that they are more casual than all those essays you wrote in school. So, if you were able to do that, this should be a fun new style of writing for you to try out. You can have a less formal tone, make jokes, and tell stories.
Although you have deadlines to make, planning, and lots of proofreading to do, you can still have so much fun by writing about things you find important in your own special way. You can choose your topics, let your great personality shine through, and help others in the B2B fitness industry.
